W. W. Treat San Francisco 1900
I am doing some research on a minerals exploration in the Death Valley, CA region for the years 1890-1922.A person who played an important role in our research was a W. W. Treat, supposedly of San Francisco, CA.In 1900, he was made president of the American Nitre Co., a subsidiary of W. R. Grace and Co. (Grace et al, at this point in time, has no knowledge of this; have not given up on them, yet!) Treat sent in miners and workers to explore the nitre beds, do assay work, etc. in 1901-2, and again in 1902-03 in the Southern DV region.I simply cannot find out who this Treat gentleman was.One obscure paper obtained from USGS in Denver claims papers ,etc for the American Nitre Co were destroyed in the SF earthquake in 1906 and that Treat died shortly thereafter.Supposedly, this Treat was from the New England area, i.e. Boston.I also came up with some info from a Web site in Canada, that a W. W. Treat was on the Klondike gold rush in Alaska in 1896, listed himself as a miner, no point of origin noted.Went to Council City, AK. I don't know if this scant info can help any of you come up with some info on this Treat or a biography. If so, I would be very grateful as his role in the entire story was seminal. Thanks in advance.Mim Romero, Las Vegas, NV
