Treadwell in Cheshire, UK
My gggrandmother Eliza Jane Simmons married George Miller Treadwell. George was born about 1843 and was a mariner. The family home was in Egremont, Cheshire, UK. He died, however, of cholera in Calcutta, India in 1891. I only know of one child, George Henry Treadwell, who was born in 1882 and died in 1945. George Henry appears to have always lived in Cheshire. I also only know of one child of George Henry, Geoffrey Churton Treadwell who died in 1912 age 3. Although they are a distant branch of my family they interest me as they are a mystery. Where did George Henry come from? Were there other descendents? He appears to have changed the family name from Miller to Treadwell at some stage - if this so, why? What is the significance of the name Churton - the name of a significant family in the area he lived in but with whom he appears to have had no connection?
