Tena - here's some info you might find useful:

WADDY THOMPSON TRAYNHAM (CLEMMON4, WILLIAM3, DAVID2, CHARLES1)was born December 16, 1833 in Tumblin Shoals, Greenville Co., SC, and died July 17, 1862. He married SOPHRONIA MACHEN3, daughter of JAMES MACHEN and SOPHRONIA. Miliary Service: Co H, 3rd Conf. Engineers AND Co. E., 16h SC Reg.: died at home, during Civil War
Probable Namesake: Named for Waddy Thompson, who, Steve Batson tells me, was a local man of some note in the Ante-bellum period. The thing most remembered about him is his home was known all over the south for its beauty and he had a fascination with the occult.
Wayne Traynham says Waddy became ill at Adam's Run, came home from the war and died two days later.
Of course, your great grandfather is his son -
JAMES HEMBREE "COON"6 TRAYNHAM (WADDY THOMPSON5, CLEMMON4, WILLIAM3, DAVID2, CHARLES1)was born June 06, 1853 in Lower Greenville Co., SC, and died March 18, 1938 in Greenville Co., SC. He married (1) LENA VANCE. He married (2) JOSEPHENE DAVENPORT June 05, 1880 in Greenville Co., SC, daughter of FRANK DAVENPORT and WINNIE CHAPMAN. She was born February 14, 1858 in Lower Greenville Co., SC, and died November 02, 1914 in Greenville Co., SC.
