My mother is a Travis and has been tracing our genealogy back to when our ancestors arrived in Jamestown in 1611 or thereabouts. Family lore has it that one of our ancestors was a colonel in the Revolutionary War and that he received a Meerschaum pipe from Gen. Washington for distinguishing himself in battle. I'm wondering if this is the same Travis you are inquiring about. I had a great uncle that kept the family history but he passed away 12 or 15 years ago. I wonder if my mom could help you out at all. You know, it was just a fluke that I happened on your posting. Good luck with your posting. By the way, we trace our history back through William Barrett Travis(a great grandx5 uncle) who commanded the Alamo. Is this the same family line that you trace yours through?
