Travioli Family Genealogy Forum

I am not sure that Palmer is doing any research at this time, so he may not check the message boards. I, however, am thrilled to see that someone is interested in information about this family. My husband is directly descended from Napoleon Bonaparte Travioli and his father, Dominic.
Dominic's story is quite interesting. He came to Licking County, Ohio from New York. But he was born in Switzerland and later fought for the French. He was captured by the English and given a choice of prison or serving the English in Canada. He chose the latter. During a battle in New York, he deserted and eventually joined up with a French colony in New York founded by Napoleon's brother who had left France.(This is where Napoleon Travioli's name came from.) He came from there to Ohio and was a shoemaker and a pack peddler all over the area that included Indiana and Illinois. He came to Clark County, Illinois, to join his sons, Napoleon (who also was a pack peddler before farming) and Francis (who became a school teacher) who had settled there. His wife came later. He died in Clark County, Illinois, at Napoleon's home and his wife died at the home of a daughter also in Clark County. Some of the family (girls who married there) stayed in Licking County, but most of them eventually ended up in Illinois.
Let me know what else you would like to know. If you could send a copy of the sale of the land, I would really like to have it. We have a Travioli site on the Internet. Everyone in the USA whose name is Travioli comes from that one person - Dominic.
