Searches of Jefferson Co NY records were done by Jean and Tom Lovetang at an unknown time, but were proved fruitless at the time, records may have surfaced now, so another search may be in order. There are probably only two possiblities for a record of marriage or banns there one being the First Methodist Church of town/township of LeRay. Abigail's brother was a founder of the church in 1824 and they would probably be able to tell you where the archived records of Methodist marriages performed in that part of New York are archived before that church was formed (we're shooting for 1819 as the supposed marriage year) The second choice which is out on a limb would be the Roman Catholic parishes/diocese of that county/area of New York.....Dominic may have wanted to be married "in the faith" and there was probably a Catholic diocese set up there with regular services before the founding of the Methodists in 1824...who knows? you can't drop any possiblities!!! Though he was Catholic, Dominic's children tended toward the Methodist/Protestant faith....probably Abigail was the main religious force in the home and her family tended along to established religions of the NorthEastern states..Congregational /Methodist (having branched from the Anglican Church, the family Chase being British). Livingston Cemetery where Napoleon, Francis and Lucinda are buried has a church that was originally part of the Methodist Circuit of Clark Co IL., while South Vigo Cem. (Black Cem) where Dominic and daughter Mary are buried is attached to a Congregational Church. Mary and Lucinda's husbands were active in this church........SO it may be safe to check the Congregational Records in Jefferson County NY as well. I too have the "Seven Generations" book and there are so many Abraham Chases in the area that "ours" gets lost in the scuttle....and Abigail Cogswell Redford is really a challange!!! I've scoured over Cogswell family histories, but have yet to find her, there is a Nathanial Cogswell family in the area, but I don't know if Abigail is a daughter or a namesake of an individiual in that family, more research I'm afraid!!!! According to a history passed down to me and I passed on to Joan Boothe (hopefully she'll send it out with all her information) states that there was an influx of families to Jefferson Co NY from Massachussetts in 1818 including the " Parker Chase family"...he may/may not have brought his elderly parents with him but obviously brought his sister Abigail. This reference to Parker Chase and the fact that the book documents Abigail as having an older brother Parker helps solidify this family. I can guess that someone in her brother David Dennis Chase's family is who supplied the author with the name and relation of "Abigail m. Domincus Travale" to the Chase book. I have information on the Chase Collection, which includes all correspondences that supplied informtion to the book, housed in the New England Historica Genealogical Society, it's supposed to be a real nightmare to search through it all, but some indexing/allotment may have been done by now. Hope this info helps let me know if you have more questions, I'm by no means going to act like an authority, I just go along with what records I have been given or researched. Cousin Jeff Long
