Jacob Trober (b. NC 1797; d. Clay Co. IL 1871)was probably the son of William C. Traughber of Logan Co KY. Various spellings of Trober exist in Illinois records: Trauber, Traughber and Trober are the most common.
Jabob had at least five children (2 sons; 3 daughters) Daniel died during the Civil War; William married Nancy Hill in 1859 in Effingham Co Illinois.
Daniel's army records show the Trober spelling as do Jacob's probate records and census records.
The Traubers have been traced to the Trarbachs who settled in Pennsylvania in 1751. Various family members moved to Virginia, North Carolina, Kentucky and Illinois beginning shortly after that date.
