Hi Steve,
No, I don't know of anyone who has a picture of Jeptha. I wish I did! I'd love to see a picture of him.
I didn't know about the 1888 marriage! Did the marriage record have his age?? Cause I wonder if the Jeptha could have been the son of Jeptha & Mary????I'm surprised he would go back to Buncombe County....I would think that people there would not not be happy to see him! Both parents were deceased by then; Mary Whitaker Trantham was also deceased; so maybe there weren't many people around who still had bad feelings towards him. My search for Tranthams in 1900 Buncombe Co showed there were 24 Tranthams, 6 of those were heads of household; the oldest was born in c1835. So, it looks like most of the 2nd generation Tranthams had moved out of the county or were deceased by 1900.
The Trantham born in c1835 was James who was Jeptha's brother, s/o Joseph & Mary.
I checked the 1900 census: NC, TN, and all states, and a search by last name only, but could not find Lillian Trantham (which doesn't surprise me). I also did a search by first name Lillian born 1869 +/- 5 yrs, and still didn't find her. Guess she could have died? remarried? been listed on census by another name?Wonder if they had children?
Do you know if Jeptha has a grave marker? I've 'heard' that he died in Spring Creek, Madison Co., NC and buried at Meadow Forks Cemetery, but have not verified this. Have you been to that cemetery??
I was born in and live in AL. I would love to travel up to NC for the reunion! Not this year but maybe next.
Nicole
