Hi Alice:
Both the UK and AUS National Archives should have Patrick draft registration records and military service rcds. These should reveal his DOB, spouse's name (if applicable), possibly parent's names, and placename(s). In any event, they will show his awards and decorations, campaigns, etc - all tidbits to spice up a family history.
