Also left payment by James Trail at Delaware in 1744 and also serving as Justice clerk over the will was Nicholas Ridgely. Nicholas was the son of Henry Ridgely of New Scotland, Prince Georges County. Nicholas and his siblings were children in 1704 when Henry died. Henry Ridgely's wife,Katherine remarried to John Howard of Ann Arundel in 1704. Henry Ridgely had land dealings at New Scotland with Thomas Ricketts and Charles Carroll among others. The Samuel Chew story and the Nicholas Ridgely reveal a network that existed between the New Scotland and Dover communities. Nicholas Ridgely's sister married Joshua Dorsey and there was also a Warfield relation and the Howard connection as stated. The Trails of Montgomery County or "Seneca Creek" were close knit to all these families. From all that has been uncovered by the will of James Trail dated 1743/44 it seems very likely James Trail of Delaware knew of David Trail Sr.'s existence at New Scotland. The Ridgely connection brings James and David Trail into the same circle of allied families. James and David Trail had to be related.
