James Trail - Matrics Michs 1762; MA (per Lit) (Alumni Cantbrigiensis); barrister, sailed 1771 with brother Robert to U.S.A., appointed as clerk of pleas at Charleston, South Carolina, called to the bar in Ireland 1780, in England 1781; M 27 1 1781 Clarissa Catherine Porter (dau of Sir James Porter, ambassador of Ottoman Porte); Called to the Irish bar 1784 and to the English Bar 1881, Deputy Inspector of Plays, and Groom of the privy Camber 1781. Private Secretary to the Chief Secretary for Northern Ireland 1794. In Lisbon with Prince Augustus, Duke of Sussex 1800-02. M.P. for Orford, Suffolk 1802-06; no children ;Commissioner for enquiring into the management of public Offices in Ireland 1804, Under Sec. in Civil Dept. 1806. He died in Dublin, Ireland, in 1808.
Further details on his brother Robert are-
Educated as a physician, settled at Savannah in Georgia where he died in 1779 in his 32nd year, from the effects of attending the sick and wounded after the capture of the town by the Kings forces.
Also the "Original Scots Colonists of Early America 1612-1783" by David Dobson - 1612-1783notes the following-
William Traill b.12/8/1759,from Deerness, Orkney, son of William Traill and Ursula Cromarty, farm servant, shipped 1774 from Kirkwall to Savannah in the "Marlborough", who settled in Richmond County, Georgia.
Janet Traill b.9/11/1756, daughter of Peter Traill and Mary Reasson (Meason?) shipped September 1775 from Kirkwall to Savannah in the "Marlborough", settling in Richmond County.
