Dear George,
I have been wondering if you had any comments on my posting # 653 and ff. about Rachel Wofford.
This is very interesting about Captain John!Answering your questions from information I have collected from others, not firsthand:
John Trail of Boston married Mary Gale but they had no children. His brother George who also died in Boston married Margaret Ballenden on 2 Feb 1711.They had a son John, who married Mary Balfour of Trenaby about 1745.I believe Patria Murphy has info on him in her book, "Trail's" but I don't have it with me, so that is all I have on him.You could contact her.I think this line died out, if I remember right??
Here is what I have on that George Traill who married Mary Graham. There does not appear to be any Henry Traill in these records which give him 2 sons and 4 daughters.
George Trail (ca 1635--Dec 1706) son of Thomas Traill "of Holland" (in the Orkney Islands) and Marion Craigie.
Acc. to Geo. Gordon, Thomas was a colonel in the service of Gustavus Vasa, King of Sweden. On return from the continental wars, he purchased an estate, Papay Westray, on the island of Rousay (Rolf's isle), which he named Holland, and transmitted the title to his descendants. He married a sister of his father's second wife, Isabel.
Descendants = Tirlet, Frotoft & Skail Trails
George Married:
1) Katherine Baikie, 5 June 1666.She was born ca 1643 and died 29 May 1668.
Child:
Thomas Traill, "third of Holland", who married Marion Traill, da of Patrick Traill and Elspeth Baikie.
(Their son was George Traill who married Jean Trail on 21 Nov 1726.She was Da of David Traill and Isabella Trail, Isabella being the fourth daughter of George and his second wife, Mary Graham. That David Traill went to the Shetland Islands and his story is coming to the Traill website according to Elsie.)
2) Mary Graham, ca 1669.She was "of Breckness" and da of John Graham.
Chidren:
Patrick who married Elspeth Baikie, da of James Baikie and Barbara Smith. He was Dean Of Guild Kirkwall In 1694.They had children Marion and William.Marion is the one who married on 8 Nov 1694 the Thomas Traill "3rd of Holland" above.William was Treas. & Dean Of Guild Of Kirkwall. I have no wife or children listed for William.(Perhaps this was the line for Capt John Trail who named his son William??)
Three daughters
Isabella (fourth da referred to above who married David Traill)
3) Marjorie Foulis
