Hi Maureen, I have been researching the Trail family for years. This is what I have found from Court records.
David Trail Sr. born 1677 place unknown was living on the Anacostia by 1695 most probably living on "Bealls Meadows" owned by Ninian Beall,James Beall, and Archibald Edmonstone which was later partitioned to create "David's Industry". David with his first wife had 4 children I know of Charles,James,David Jr., and Rachel. David secondly married a servant he had purchased in 1744 named Elizabeth May. David Died in 1752. There are 2 prevailing theories to his parentage at this time. Number one is that he was the son of John Trail who was transported into Northumberland County, Virginia 1662 or son of John Trail transported into Ann Arundel County, Maryland in 1682 .John Trail may have been from the Orkney line. Number 2 that He was the son of James Trail of Kinnell who had twin boys in 1672 named James and David. This theory, Gail Trail knows all about this, is interesting because a James Trail Sr. was married to Mary at Duck Creek Delaware in 1698.
