The "William and John" ship

Tim Traill claims a legend that a Trail family came to America not long after the "Mayflower" from Devonshire on a ship named the "William and John". There are a number of references to a ship of this name as early as 1620 all the way to 1690 entering American ports. It seems there was more than one vessel of this name. There was one of Bristol, one of Lyme, and most entries refer to the "William and John" of London. This London vessel made numerous trips to Virginia. Possibly just coincidence, but at one point in the 1670's the master of the ship was John Sanders. Edward Sanders who first transported John Treel into Virginia in 1662 had a son named John. Later in the early 1700's there was another Edward Sanders who was master of a ship that made numerous trips between Devonshire and Maryland.
