John Trail of Maryland
Posted by: George Trail (ID *****8017) Date: March 22, 2009 at 10:37:14
  of 1858

John Treel transported by Edward Sanders into Northumberland Virgina in 1662 may have been there earlier as I have found at least 6 other headrights listed eith John to have been listed as headrights in 1660. Then in 1682 John Treely was transported into Ann Arundel County,Maryland by Capt. John Browne, mariner and his headright sold to Henry Hanslap. Once again at least 6 othernames on this list with John Treely in 1682 were previously mentioned as headrights into Ann Arundel County in 1677 so it is safe just to say that John Trail (Treely) was at Ann Arundel by 1682 at the latest. This move into the South River community brings John Trail ever closer to David Trail Of Prince Georges. Henry Hanslap's daughter Elizabeth married Joseph Chew who purchased "Yarrow" and "Yarrowhead" in Prince Georges County and then when Joseph Chew died in 1704 he left this land to Joseph Chew Jr. who lived there and was immediate neighbor of David Trail. Henry Hanslap was also most close to Thomas Plummer Sr. of Ann Arundel County. Henry and his son Joseph Hanslap witnessed the will of Thomas Plummer Sr. In that will Thomas Plummer Sr. left to his son Thomas Plummer Jr. land called "Seaman's Delight" in Prince Georges County. Thomas Plummer Jr. was residing there by 1700 as immediate neighbor of David Trail. At Ann Arundel Henry Hanslap was immediate neighbor of David Mackelfresh, and most close to families such as the Burgesses,Howards,Warfields,Ricketts and even appears in a Baltimore County record with John Combest(step-father to his children Samuel and Beththena) and Miles Gibson and in Calvert County record with Ninian Beall. With the revelation of this latest finding it makes John Trail (Treel,Treale,Treely,Treell,Treill) the first Trail to Maryland as well as to America.
