Traills in the south West of England

Dear George and Gail,
I have knowledge of a tradition passed on by Henry Traill that he believed that the Maryland Traills were descended from a William Traill who had migrated from Scotland to the south West of England that they had emigrated to America during the 17th century. Henry died in 1996 and had done a considerable amount of family research. Henry had no interest in the american line as they were not directly related. however although there was no proof of his information but a family story. there is this to consider Henry was descended from the Rev. William Traill of Somerset county. It is extremely possible that the Rev. William knew John Traill of Rappahannock Virginia and that this is the source of the story. In addition the original Traill who moved south was according to the story named William. In the records there is certainly a William Traill marrying at Colyton Devon in 1601 whom one could believe was the son of the John with two children born in the same town in 1572 and 1577 and William was possibly born before John left scotland. It is just at this time that Elizabeth the first is known to have been rebuilding her navy turning it into a fighting force to be reckoned with The navy was based at Bristol Topsham Portsmoth And Dartmouth with the shipwrights based as far up the Severn as Gloucester
I have not made this information of Henry's story public before because I had no evidence to support it but now it would seem George's research has started to point that way. I feel it should be considered. Elsie Ritchie
