Dear Elsie,

Thanks for getting those original records--that helps a lot!!

About Forbes connections. I have the Stirnet files on them and Carstairs. The family of Aurthur Forbes 6th of Rires, shows Elizabeth Morton as his wife. Their children include Catharine Forbes who married Wm Murray of Claremont--which is just up the road towards St. Andrews, next to Clatto as I remember, thus a strong chance Elizabeth is from the local Mortons who lived there next to Blebo Hole. (I'm remembering here the David who first married an Elizabeth Morton.) Also a James Forbes is shown as Catherine's brother in another source, "of Kilmenie". Catherine's sister Lilias suposedly married John Carstairs of Raderny, 2nd of Cassingray in Carstairs02 file, but the dates don't look right, so probably she was the daughter of the next Forbes generation--Robert's daughter?. Robert Forbes, 7th of Rires also has confusing information about who his wife was and the age of his daughter in a different source.

Back to the Murrays. I noticed that they have connections to others I have been looking at. Agnes Graham, daughter of William Graham 2nd Earl of Montrose married Sir Wm Murray of Tullibardine. One of their sons was Sir Mungo Murray of Claremont, father of the William of Claremont who bought Blebo. William's son, named Mungo, also married a Graham, who was Anna Graham, daughter of William Graham, 1st Earl of Airth. Mungo and Anna had 8 children. He had a second wife Christian Hamilton. Also weaving through these families are the Kinninmonts, Sandilands, Leslies, Beatons, Stewarts etc..

You found interesting connection of Traills to Radernie. Did you know there were also Carstairs of Radernie? Maybe they rented part or all of it to Traills? Margaret Traill married David Carstairs. If he was of the "of Radernie" Carstairs family he would fit as another son of John Carstairs of Radernie, 1st of Cassingray, and Helen Alexander. Only one child is listed for that John and Helen, which is the John who married Lilias Forbes in 1643 in the file, so that would make sense if he had a brother. David and Margaret married in 1643, too.

About the James of Ladeddie line as you have outlined it. I think there is a problem with William's new dates when you think of him being the person with David assigned to settle the affairs for his father (you have a document stating that don't you?) He would be too young in 1577 to be an executor if born in 1568. I suggest that he was born about 1552 and there was another generation about 1575 for William's son to be the father of the ones you have grouped here.

Enough for now. Gail
