Great findings, George! The name Coutts rang a bell with me.It was for a family in south Maryland in the Port Tobacco,Piccawaxen or Wm and Mary, and Wicomico area of Charles County. That is where the early tobacco planting happened. Port Tobacco was the main shipping market town before Bladensburg was developed. But there the name was spelled Courts.John Courts, and John Jr. were the two main names. They owned Courts, Courts Bottom, Courts Choice, Courts Discovery, Courts Palace and Courts Retirement. This is from the Charles Co. Rent Rolls Index.
It may be the same family as James and Hercules, but the earlier plantations, before they had branched out to Philadelphia, etc.?
