Dear George, Not even the Orkney Traills were using the name Edward at that date. The first one is recordedin 1770 as far as I know the son of a William Traill and is the only one for the 18th century. The early 19th century produces two among the Aberdeen Traills So yes you have found another unknown I think. He does sound like a businessman doesnt he, but dealing in Slaves not surprising at thattime perhaps. it is possible he is a son of james Traill junior though, which would make him over 40 with children in the late teens and early 20s. Didn't you mention once that Simon was James eldest son and to be the eldest there has to be at least one other child regards Elsie
