Edward Trail Fredrick County Maryland 1764
There is a court record at Frederick County Maryland dated 1764 where Notley Thomas and William Thomas mortgage a number of slaves to satisfy a certain judgement obtained in Frederick County Court by " Messrs. Edward Trail and Sons". The term "Messrs." is a french term that translates to "Gentlemen" and in this denotes a business firm. This throws a bit of a wrench in known family history of the Maryland Trails because in 1764 this Edward Trail would not only have been educated, but with grown sons he would have been too old to be a son of James Sr.,Charles,or David Jr. and thus was likely another unknown son of David Trail Sr. of New Scotland Hundred and born in the 1700 to 1715 timeframe. In addition Notley Thomas was born abt. 1722 and was the son of William Thomas and Ann Jenkins. I suppose this would make Ann Jenkins a candidate to be a relative to the "Widow Jenkins" buried in the family graveyard of James Trail Sr. The birthname Edward was to my knowledge in the 18th century only used by the Orkney Traills.
