Dear Elsie,James Trail of Delaware was the son of Robert Trail of Delaware. We would be ignorant not to see this from the many records left us.David Trail is the only one still in question. George Tryall was probably not a Trail at all as he and subsequent generations were never referred to as Trail.Robert,James ,and David were Trails. James Trail is the only Trail that David Trail can truly be connected to from records left. They had direct mutual family associations that are documented. All other theories on David are 100 percent speculative. Elsie if you are looking for James and David in the will of Robert there are many possibilities why they are not there. The ancient Maryland wills leave out progeny all the time. We only have to look at Ninian Beall will where he bequeaths only part of his land holdings and estate and the rest is considered to have been taken care of before his death by some means. These boys may have been illegitimate or part Indian(as Joseph West was) or their mother may have died of Small Pox before Robert did. Why would Robert leave something to infants with uncertainty of even surviving to adulthood. Robert was,nt as wealthy as you may think either. He only mentions one tract of land in his will. He was smart though and knew the best chance for his offspring would be in the hearts of his settler friends at Delaware and by leaving his estate to friends he in turn secured the best chances for his progeny.
