Hi Don,
By coincidence I managed to find your site yesterday and was up until 1:30 in the morning last night recording information. My best determination is that I am the 10th great-grandson of Nicolas Trahan of France.
The Meaux connection comes in when the Michel Meaux (technically a Creole?) married Elizabeth Isabelle Broussard (daughter of Ursule Trahan and grand-daugther of Rene Trahan and Elizabeth Darois) on February 17, 1770 in the Attakapas church.Michel Meaux was a first-generation settler to Louisiana from Chaillevette, Saint Ange, France.
My wife has asked me why I have been so overwhelmed by the stories of the Acadians. While I knew of the basic folklore, reading and learning about the individuals of whom I am descended, and becoming aware of the incredible hardships that they overcame, is like living a history book in real time. Some of the individual stories are hard to believe.Individuals like the Broussard (Beausoleil) brothers (Joseph and Alexandre), and Guillaume Trahan should be celebrated.I want to make sure my kids know who these people were.
My immediate Meaux family is from Lyons Point and Kaplan (my grandfather was Dupre Meaux). The Meaux's that came to Texas (Winnie and Beaumont) I believe are related to us through my great-grandfather David Meaux, Jr.
thanks again
Dave
