Bonjour Paul,
After 1748 treaty in Aix-la-Chapelle, the part of Acadia which is roughly Nova Scotia today was British territory while Ile St-Jean and Ile Royale with Louisbourg remained French. The French asked the Acadians in Nova Scotia to come to French territory. Many crossed to Ile St-Jean. The British took over those islands and Louisbourg in 1758 and then deported every Acadian they could catch.
Salut !
Roger
