There are no Tracy/Tracey wills in the Loudoun will books. The only mentions (and there are only three) of any Tracys does not occurred until the 1820's. True, women usually owned no property and therefore left no will. This widow Tracy appears to be renting property, therefore she did not own it. The Awbreys owned quite a bit of property and leased out a good portion. The 'reserving the rents' probably refers to holding that money received from the rent payments instead of distributing them each year to the heirs. The only Traceys on the Pers. Prop. Tax Lists from 1782-1789 were: 1785A First Battalion Tracey, William 1786 Tracey, Wm.Wallace 1787B First Battalion Tracy, Charity (not tithable) 1787B First Battalion Tracy, William 1788B First Battalion Tracy, Charity (not tithable) 1789B First Battalion Tracy, William Tracy appears because she was the head of the household and owned a couple of horses. From "Loudoun Co. Marriages 1757-1853" by Wertz: Thompson, Thomas & Jemima Tracey. m. 22 Dec. 1796. Minister: John Littlejohn (Methodist). At this point I see no connection between the two families. It appears that the widow Tracey was simply one of several persons to whom Awbrey rented land. Pat Duncan GenNutLdn@msn.com Notify Administrator about this message?
