Origin of My Delaware Townsends

Hi Folks,

I have been posting to this forum for several years trying to find the origins of my Townsend family that settled the town of Townsend, Delaware.

There has been a long held myth in our family that our ancestors came from Enland with the William Penn group.

I have done an exhaustive search on all of the Townsends that came with William Penn, and could not find any match to my Townsend family.

In late 2008, I had a DNA test done of my Y chromosones. This test showed very conclusively that I am descended from a John Townsend who was born in 164o in Accomack, Virginia.

My Townsend family eventually migrated to the Snow Hill area of Northern Maryland, and eventually migrated to Southern Delaware in Sussex County.

In 1748 my ancestor John Townsend was born in Sussex County, Delaware. John Townsend married Sarah Liston in 1769. I have a complete trace from this John Townsend to my current Townsend family of 2009. I am still working on the trace in Sussex County prior to 1748.

Bottom line, the Townsends that settled Townsend, Delaware came from Virginia. Prior to that they came from England.

Thanks to all who have helped me in my genealogy search!!

Scott
