I too had a Peter, John and William in my Townsend family that came from N.C. They were in Kentucky and then moved to Morgan county, Indiana.
My greatgreat grandfather,"Peter Townsend" was born about 1798 in N.C., according to the census. His older sons were born in Kentucky in the 1820s-30s. Peter moved to Indiana, remarried in 1848 and his son,(my great grandfather) John Peter Townsend was born in Morgan county, Ind. in 1853. I feel that all our families were related that you have talked about due to the names that are found in each family. They just happened to move to different states.
My Peter named one of his sons,"Anthony" and I haven't found this name in any other Townsend family. It could have been a maternal name though.
If you come across information on my branch of Peter Townsend's from N.C. I would appreciate hearing from you.
