I saw your quiry on GenForum regarding James Townsend Davis born 1845 son of William
Davis and Mary. You thought that Townsend might be a family name. Yes it is a family
name but I don't know if this ties into your family. Take a look at the following information
and let me know if it works for you.
William Townsend (Buck) Davis b. 1817 Granville County, North Carolina
buried in Roberts Ferry Cem. Waterford, CA, Stanilaus, Co.
spouse - Mary Ann Burke b. 1827 Alabama
buried in Roberts Ferry Cem. Waterford, CA, Stanilaus, Co.
had a total of 11 children,
one being a James b. 1856 in Arkansas
buried in Roberts Ferry Cem. Waterford, CA, Stanilaus, Co.
James married an Eliza Jane
buried in Roberts Ferry Cem. Waterford, CA, Stanilaus, Co.
They live in Stanislaus County, California
James and Eliza had possible 3 children,
Clara B.---died and infant
also possibly - Bill T. - b. 1896 d.1928 - Roberts Ferry Cem. Waterford, CA, Stanilaus,
Co.
also possibly - George - 1898 d. 1944 -Roberts Ferry Cem. Waterford, CA, Stanilaus,
Co.
If your date for James in correct at 1845 then this is not your James and besides I think this
James middle initial is K. but back another generation William Townsend (Buck) Davis,s
father a Samuel Davis born in Tennesee married to Nancy Townsend born in probably
Indiana
have two other children:
James C.
John C.
both born in Granville, North Carolina and James lived in the Waterford California area
and possibly also John C.
Check out James C. and John C. Anyway, yes as you can see Townsend is used as a middle name.
