Since my grandfather was married three times, I will have a lot of distant cousins who might want this information. The notes in brackets are from me. Liz
From a typed copy of a “Copy of family Bible records from a Bible belonging to Samuel Townes and his wife Rachel (Stokes) Townes who were married April 21, 1799.”
“Original Copy was made by Claudia K. Townes, daughter of George Franklin Townes and his second wife, Henrietta Ann (Johnson) Townes.”
[ETB: These records were typed, probably in the 1950’s, probably by Henry Keith Townes’ secretary, or by his wife, Ellen Hard Townes. I do not know the whereabouts of either the Bible or the original copy.]
[George Franklin Townes [1809-1891] married three times: 1) Dec. 13. 1838, to Elizabeth Ann Sloan; 2) Dec. 20, 1854, to Henrietta Ann Johnson, who was the daughter of the Rev. William Bullein Johnson ; 3) Jan. 4, 1871, to Mary Isabella Keith. My grandfather, Henry Keith Townes (1876-1958), was the only son of this 3rd marriage. The family lived in or near Greenville, SC, and the assumption can be made that most of the births, deaths, and marriages occurred there.]

Samuel Townes was born May 11, 1773. Spottsylvania [crossed out] Virginia. [On other family charts, this person, b. 1773, is called Samuel Allen Townes, but distinctions are made below between those named Samuel.]
Rachel (Stokes) Townes was born April 20th 1779, Frederick County, Maryland
William Washington Townes, son of Samuel and Rachel Townes, was born February 12th, 1800.
Eliza P. Townes, daughter of Samuel and Rachel Townes, was born March 9, A. D. 1802
Henry H. Townes, son of Samuel and Rachel Townes was born Sept. 4th A. D. 1804
Samuel Allen Townes, son of Samuel and Rachel Townes, was born Dec. 23rd A. D. 1806
George Franklin Townes, son of Samuel and Rachel Townes was born June 9th A. D. 1809
John Allen Townes, son of Samuel & Rachel Townes was born July 26th A. D. 1812
William Augustus Townes, son of Samuel & Rachel Townes was born January 31st A. D. 1822.
Maria Louisa Blassingame, daughter of Eliza and Wm. E. Blassingame was born 17th February 1819
Catherine Floride Townes, daughter of Henry H. and Lucretia A. Townes was born Nov. 21st 1827.
Martha Ann Townes, daughter of Henry H. & Lucretia A. Townes was born December 27th 1828
Samuel Townes, son of George F. and Elizabeth A. Townes, was born November 29, 1839.
Alexander Sloan Townes, son of George F. and Elizabeth A. Townes, born the 20th of February 1842
Ella, daughter of G. F. and Elizabeth Townes, born 4th of March 1845.
DEATHS
William Washington Townes, son of Samuel and Rachel departed this life March 6th 1803.
Samuel Townes departed this life April 11th 1826, aged firty-two years and eleven months.
Martha Ann Townes, daughter of H. H. and L. A. Townes died 31st August 1835.
Anna Maria, daughter of H. H. and L. A. Townes died 16th October 1839
Sam’l A., only son of H. H. and L. A. Townes died 2nd of October 1840, aged 9. The darling of his parents and beloved by all who knew him.
Samuel Townes son of George F. and Elizabeth A. Townes died March 27, 1844.
Rachel Townes, wife of Samuel Townes departed this life August 3rd, 1850, aged 71 years, 3 months and fourteen days.
Eliza Paul Blassingame, daughter of Samuel & Rachel Townes, departed this life October 11th 1857, aged 55 years, seven months and two days.
John Allen Townes, son of Samuel & Rachel Townes departed this life January 1st 1862, aged 29 years, five months & 6 days.
Henry H. Townes, son of Samuel & Rachel Townes died 30th May, 1849, aged 44 years, 8 months and 26 days.
William Augustus Townes, youngest son of Samuel & Rachel Townes departed this life Sunday 6th of January 1878, aged 56 years.
George Franklin Townes, fourth son of Samuel and Rachel Townes departed this life on Saturday, April 11th, 1891, aged 81 years, 10 months and 3 days.
MARRIAGES
Samuel Townes married Rachel Stokes 21st April A. D. 1799.
William E. Blassingame married Eliza Paul Townes April 21st 1818 [there is a family tradition of marrying on the same day as your parents]
Henry Hamilton Townes married Lucretia Ann Calhoun February 28th, 1827.
Samuel A. Townes & Miss Joanna L. Hall married 23rd January 1834.
George F. Townes and Miss Elizabeth A. Sloan married 13th November 1838
William Augustus Townes and Miss Fannie R. Seawell were married Marion [?], Perry County, Alabama, on the 21st April 1857.
Indianna [elsewhere, India], 3rd daughter of William Augustus & Fannie S. Townes, was married to John K. Earle, June 8th 1881.
