Hello Carol,
I am the genealogist for the Towne Family Association. A copy of E. E. Towne's book can be purchased through Higginson Books of Salem, MA however, it is a reproduction and it takes 6 to 8 weeks to complete.
Regarding the Towne Family Association. You do not need to prove your lineage to become a member. We do know of some California Townes but people are still working to prove their link back to William and Joanna. For example, there is a Towne who was a druggist/pharmacist in Petaluma whose ancestry is still a mystery.
