We do have Vital Records of Hampon, NH by Sanborn. On page163 there is an entry stating that Amos, son of Joseph towl(sic)& Mehetabel his wife was born the 13th day of November 1711. I gather from the prologue that the Sanborns were meticulous in transcribing the info into their book from the town records but some of the info in the town book may have been furnished by families, at least in some cases, some time after the fact, so it is possible some erroneous info might have inadvertantly got into the record. Maybe someone will come up with more specific info that will clear up this conflict. Until then I guess I can't be sure of Amos' mother and may never find the answer. Thanks for your input anyhow.
