My cousin did research on our family (at least us Tovars) and it turns out that there were 3 brothers from spain. they were conquistadors and the three were sent to the americas. One ended up in Peru (where we are from), another in Venezuela and the third in Mexico. that is how we ended up all over the place :) She has more details on that, we have a coat of arms and generations of information, so this russian/japanese connection is the first i heard of and also about the jewish connection. as far as i know they were christian/catholic since they were comissioned by the king and queen of spain.
