Dear Ian My Alexander Tough's father was called Peter Tough and was probabaly born approx 1805-10 in Aberdeen. However, I have only just found this out last week by obtaining a copy of Alexander's marriage certificate (to an Agnes Trail in Gateshead 1856). Prior to finding that my Alexander's father was called Peter I had looked up Alexander Tough on the Church of the Latter Day Saints website (very good site). This said that an Alexander Tough born in Aberdeen in 1836 (which I assumed to be my Alexander) was the son of Alexander Tough. This Alexander Tough (christianed 2 Nov 1805) married Mary Carr. His parents were William Tough(b. 1751) and Elizabeth Ferrar (b. 1753). This would mean that they had Alexander very late in life at 54 and 52 respectively so I am slightly dubious. Between Alexander and Mary they had 5 sons and 4 daughters (Isobel, Jane, Margaret, Mary, Gordon, James, John, John B?! and Alexander though not in this order.) I thought up until I recieved the copy of Alexander Tough and Agnes Trail's marriage certificate that Alexander was the son of Alexander and Mary but I now know this not to be true. Perhaps you can make use of the above or clarify anything that I am confused about. You can e-mail me direct at cmasters@gsmd.ac.uk or post to this board. Look forward to hearing from you.
