Andrea "Henry" & Francesca Torchia
Posted by: Dave Wright (ID *****1574) Date: July 30, 2006 at 22:22:36

I am looking for information on Andrea and Francesca Torchia of Parco, Italy. I have very little information, but what I have I will post here.

Andrea was born in Italy (and so was his wife presumably). He had at least one brother (name unknown) and possibly other siblings. Francesca probably died in the 1940's.

They had five children:

Joseph born 8 Feb 1887 in Parco, Italy, died Sep 1975 in Italy. He never married. He immigrated to the United States in 1920 and still lived there in 1930 to appear on the US Census in LaSalle County, Illinois. However, at sometime (not sure exactly when) he moved back to Italy where he died in 1975.

Salvatore "Sam" born 26 Oct 1889 in Parco, Italy, died 7 December 1957 in LaSalle County, Illinois. Salvatore married Rose Polizzi abt 1920 in LaSalle County, Illinois. Rose was born on 8 Dec 1895 in Italy. (I am also looking for her parents.) Sam and Rose had 8 children: Angelina (1922-Present), Josephine (1923-Present), Henry (1925-Present), Joseph John (1926-2005), Peter (1929-Present), Anthony "Nino" (1931-Present), Unnamed Infant Stillborn (1932) and Rosemary (1933-Present).

Francesca (no additional information)

Madelana, and adopted daughter.

Marianna (no additional information)

Andrea's brother had five children, at least four of which came to America. It is uncertain if he himself came to America or not. His children are Joseph (1883-?), Manuel (1885-1969), Stefino (1895-?), Anton (abt 1896-?). All four sons lived in LaSalle County, Illinois in the 1920's amd 1930's. There is also believed to be a daughter, but I don't know her name and have not found a record of her anywhere as of yet.

Most of my information comes from family members recollections, but some of it is documented on the US Census, World War I Draft Registration Cards, and a few vital records.

I am interested in any additional information on the ancestors of this line who may still be living in Sicily or other parts of Italy. Also, if you are a descendant of this line living elsewhere, please drop me an e-mail or respond to this message on the forums.

One additional note on Rose Polizzi who married Salvatore Torchia: Her mother's maiden name is thought to be Mertily or something similar (spelling might be wrong). Also some of the Rose Polizzi's siblings changed their last name to Politzi. Her siblings are Joe (1897-?), Frank, Rosale and Sam. Joe Polizzi married Patrina ?, and lived in LaSalle County, Illinois in the 1930's, and some of his descendants still live in LaSalle County, Illinois to date.
