My Grandmother , Mae Torbett Childress, b. 6 June,1875 Cherokee Co., Tx d. 30 July, 1940 in Milam Co., Tx, m. George Ferguson Childress in Van Zandt Co. Tx in 1894. She kept a list of her ancestors for 6 generations on one sheet of note paper and handed them down to me.I would like to hand them down to you in hopes something might help you in your research.
1st Generation John and Elizabeth came from Ireland about 1760 and settled in the valley of Va.
2nd Generation
1.Sam Torbett b 7/1764, d4/1843, wife Jane,b 1764,d 1833.
2.Nathan lived in AugustaCo, Va, near Brookville. Had no children.
4. John lived in Tn.
5 & 6 Mary and Jane founded school near Stanton, Va.
3rd Generation
