Parents of John D. Torbett: John, abt. 1750 in PA, d. abt. 1809 in Piney Flats, TN and Marthey ??, b. abt 1758. They married abt. 1772

NOTES FOR JOHN D TORBETT [from Evelyn Rahn]
According to Oscar Torbett of Arlington, Virginia. who researched for all of the Torbetts .John D was son of John in Sullivan county, Tennessee; he was called John Jr until his own son was born (John Harrington) then he adopted the initial "D" to distinguish him from his son.

We do not know when John D married Sarah. She was on the 1830 census as Sarah and died before 1840 census. Apparently spinster daughter Amanda took care of John D., since he left all his earthly goods to her; she later married Parker Hood. Oscar Torbett, the researcher for this family, has suggested Sarah might be a Hughs. There were other daughters not mentioned in the will. Possibly one married William Stokeley. John moved in1809 to Blount county; in 1818 he purchased land in Morgantown, Monroe county at the confluence of Little Tenn and Tellico rivers. The land now lies beneath Lake Tellico. John was one of the first Justices of the Peace in Monroe county.
