Hi Melba. Well, if your sister-in-law is a daughter of Lorin Hann, then she and my mother are 4th cousins, I believe. Susanne Toph's father, William, had a brother, Henry. Henry married Catherine Lacy, and their daughter, Nancy, married James Hollingsworth, from Georgia. Their son, John, married Rhoda Boyles, and they had a daughter, Edith, who married Forrest Chambers McKibben. Their daughter, Virginia, is my mother.

Yes, you are right; William Toph did marry Margaret Starlin.

Since you live in the area of the Toph "stompin' grounds", I'm sure you know where the Old Baptist Cemetery is, up on New Haven Road, just a little east of the north end of Mt. Hope Rd. There are many Tophs buried there. Also, I guess you are familiar with Strimple Road. Did you know that it was originally named Toph Road?

There is a fellow named Ken Wuelzer who is closely related to the Tophs and the Hanns. In fact, his mother was a Hann, descended from Susanne & Mortimer thru their son, William & his son, Donald. He has a really neat website,, well worth checking out. It's chock full of names, dates, photos, census records, etc.

Well, I'll be glad to help out in any way that I can. Dave
