Fewer Topete's have been frequenting this site so I thought I would refresh an earlier entry for those who may recognize names on this website.

Another Topete fowarded me this web-site and I have been able to find it again when I type in my grandfather's name, Gildardo Topete:

http://www.desdelolocal.gob.mx/work/templates/enciclo/jalisco/mpios/14015a.htm

This is a very long one-page website in Spanish but if you search for Topete you will jump to the mayor's of Autlan.

Both my grandfather Gildardo and my uncle Florencio were mayors of Autlan in the 1920's. Abelardo was another uncle but not listed as a Mayor. I was born long after my grandfather died but I have to assume his brothers had children may have stayed in Jalisco.

The last Topete to serve as mayor was Hector Topete Valencia in 1947. I do not know if he is a brother or son of my immediate family but perhaps someone out there knows.

My grandfather Gildardo Topete Valencia Married his first cousin Luz Bordez Topete, they had three children, Mary Lou, Guadalupe and Gildardo Topete (my dad).

My great-grandparents were:

Jose Maria Topete & Coltilde Valencia

And Marcos Topete and Adel Bordez

This was all the information I have since my father was tight lipped about his history in Mexico until I bumped into another, Juan Topete who works for Comcast Cable and happens to live 3 miles from me. He mentioned the name Raul Topete as a popular family name and was familiar with the story of the ranch near Autlan. But his version of the story was that a brother killed another brother or something involving a death and the Topete's split from there.

Thats all I know my cousins, Gil from Sacramento.
