Hi Jim,
I tried to return to your email address and it bounced back at me.So I just put the info in here.
It was not an aunt.It was my father's cousin. Her name was Ruth Tootle Lancaster.Yes, her search was successful (National DAR Number 634608, Fernanda Maria Chapter, Van Nuys, CA 7-043-CA).
Ruth had an Abner Tootle from MD, was a member of the Company of Henry Casson in the French & Indian War (1754-1760 or 1763) and my father's three aunts had a Nathan Tootle from MD, was a patriot in the Revolutionary War (however, the Aunts did not join the DAR).In the GenForum, Judy states the name as "Abner Nathan Tootle".Is this correct? Was it one person and he possibly fought in both wars?
Did I read in the GenForum that you live in Virginia?I live in Ohio.I remember going to Clarksburg with my parents as a child to see the Campbell girls (my father's 3 Aunts) and the Tootle Families.
I worked on this Genealogy about 20 yrs ago.I was very green at it and still am.A colleague of mine was working on hers and she would help me and give me advise. Then my job got real busy.I set it aside and forgot about it.Just recently, my youngest brother and my older brother's wife (my sister-in-law) have been at me to get back into it.I am very new at this Internet genealogy and could definitely use some help.
This is my maternal Grandmother's side of the family -- Nyra "Nira" Tootle, b. Aug 15, 1882 in Ross Co, Clarksburg, OH, d. Dec 1, 1951, bur Darbyville Cemetery, Pickaway Co, m. ca June 1914, William Henry Davis, b. Apr 20, 1866 in Pickaway Co., d. ca Feb 22, 1925, bur Darbyville Cemetery, Pickaway Co.They had 2 children:Gayle Evelyn Davis, b. Aug 29, 1915, d. Mar 28, 1999 and William Lamar Davis (my father), b. May 2, 1919, d. July 26, 1988.
Nyra's parents: Isaac Davis Tootle, b. Sept 20, 1851, d. Mar 2, 1905 m. Mar 20, 1880, Catherine Josephine Willis, b. July 11, 1852, d Mar 8, 1913. Children:Bessie, Myra, Iva, Floyd, Edna, and Ward.
Isaac Davis Tootle's parents: Isaac David Tootle, b. Dec 1, 1816, d. Jan 16 0r 18, 1855, m. Mar 19, 1844, Elizabeth Kimmey (Kinney), b. Feb 14, 1818, d. Feb 12, 1888.Children:John Clark(3), Aliza Ann, Isaac Davis, Mary Elizabeth Ann (possible others ?? Amos Davis, May Eleanor).
Isaac David Tootle's parents:Thomas Brown Tootle, b Oct 23, 1878 in Dorchester Co., MD, d. Jan 1, 1844 in Ross Co., OH m. Mar 29, 1812, Mary Ann Rector, b. Aug 16, 1791, d. Jan 1843.Mary Ann (Rector) Tootle was the daughter of Mary Ann (Tiffin) Rector (sister to Edward Tiffin, 1st Governor of Ohio. His wife was also Mary (Worthington) Tiffin, she was the sister of Thomas Worthington, 6th Governor of Ohio.)
My paternal Grandfather's side of the family (William Henry Davis) is not well known. My grandfather died when my father was 5 yrs old and we do not know a whole lot.Would you happen to know anything about the Davis Family. It seems that they cross paths a couple of time with the Tootles. My ggfather was William P or D Davis (nickname Cuckleburr Bill).I have found some cousins of my grandfather that I need to talk to before they pass on.Hope they will be able to help me.
Well, better close.I know I am gabby. But, my sister-in-law tells me that I am hooked. If I can find the correct information, the Internet makes it a lot easier to find family history.
By the way, this is my work email address. And it is okay to email me here.I do not have email at home yet. When I retire from here, I will probably have to get it for home.
Thanks for responding to my inquiry.
Later,
Janet (Tootle & Davis) Ray
