Douglass, bear with me; I'm not there, yet. This Simon Franck + Anna had to have been married by 1577 because they begat Jacob in 1577 (baptismal records show this); he married Catharina (my line) and they had a daughter, Agnes. But you have that Hans Jacob Franck (Simon and Anna's son) was a baptismal sponsor in 1579?? When he was two?

Suppose Simon Franck was just given that name by the locals in Pfaffenhoffen when he got there so he could be distinguished from other Simons in the area (as in: "He's the Simon from Frank..."), what do you suppose he was called before, while in Frankenhessen? Any clue?

Maybe he's the missing Simon Jakob (he wasn't missing; the locals just changed his name). Perhaps prior to that he was married (maybe to that Agnes), but that she died before he came to PF. Perhaps, that's WHY he left home and came to a new area. The man was grieving. All speculation, of course -- but possible -- right?

Do you have access to marriage records in Frankenhessen? I wonder if there are records of a Simon Jakob marrying an Agnes, say, in c. 1557.

Anyway, I have that my Jacob married Catharina in 1606 and had the following children:
1) Maria (1610)
2) Johann Jacob (1613)
3) Unknown (1614)
4) Margaretha (1615)
5) Lorentz (1616)
6) Simon (1617)
7) Eva (1618)
8) Johann Adolph (1619)
9) Georg (1622)

... but no Agnes (or was she the "unknown?"

Then in 1626 Jacob married Ottilia Heuler. I only found three children attributed to them -- and none were an Agnes, either.

With Agnes Wentzel ( J married her in 1599 and then married Catharina in 1606, ole Ms. Agnes Wentzel must not have been around for very long, evidently), I don't have any children listed for them.

So, the Hans Jacob (1558-1618), who married Apollonia Gams (who did have an Agnes) in 1585 is NOT my line? That their child number three: Johann Jacob, is NOT the one who married Catharina, et al. I have that this Hans Jacob + Apollonia had five children:
1) Agnes (1586)
2) Maria (1588)
3) Johann Jacob (Oct 1590-1635): this is the one I thought m. Catharina
4) Apollonia (1591)
5) Catharina (1593)

So this Jacob is not my ancestor, afterall? So what's the Jacob and Apollonia story? Have you tracked his line before? Where's he connected?

Damn, this is fascinating.
