I have some info. for you on Tab TOONE, if you still need it. I notice your message was posted in 1998 and you may already have what you’re looking for, but if not, here’s more than you probably want to know. I have a big book on the Toones, Toons, Tunes of America and Tab TOONE is listed in it and he is one of my great uncles. I’m going to list his lineage starting with him and working backward to the year 1634. I can also give you info. on some present day descendants if you need it.
James Tabner TOONE is the son of James Colman and Mary Elizabeth MARSH. He was born in Lonoke Co. AR on 7 Aug. 1866. His first wife was Stella Tennessee Shumate. She was born 18 Feb. 1879 in Lonoke Co. and died 30 Sept. 1901. Stella is buried at Butlerville in Lonoke Co. His second wife was Laura Burns SANDERLIN (book does not show when she died. If you happen to have this information, I’d appreciate having it.) Tab TOONE died 12 June 1954 and both are buried at Butlerville, Lonoke Co. AR. The son of Tab and Stella is James Colman TOONE, born 26 Sept. 1901. The daughter of Tab and Laura is Ester (book doesn’t indicate when she was born, etc. I can, however, get this info. if you need it.) Tab TOONE was a farmer and was living at Ward, AR in 1950.
Tab’s father, James Colman TOON is the son of Tavner and Marcia ANDERSON. James Coleman was born in 1832 in Madison County, TN. He married Mary Elizabeth MARSH on 26 July 1852 in Madison Co., TN. Mary Elizabeth MARSH was born in 1836 in Madison Co., TN. James Colman is buried at Butlerville, Lonoke Co., AR. He was a farmer. The children of James Colman and Mary are: Moriah, born 1853; Mary, born 1854; Frances Fredonia, born 1857; Lewis, born 1858; James Tabner (Tab), born 1866. They lived in Prairie County, AR in 1860.
Tab’s g-grandfather was Tavener TOONE who was the son of John Lewis TOONE and Rebecca MOORE. Tavener was born 1801 in Mecklenburg Co., VA. He married Marie C. ANDERSON (called Marcie) on 2 Feb. 1823 in Madison Co., AL. They were married by Justice of the Peace Edmond Dupy. Marie died and Tavener then married Mary Ann ALLISON. She was born in 1818 in Tennessee. They were married in 1838 in Madison Co., TN. Tavener was a farmer and also the constable of Madison Co., TN. The children of Tavener and Marcie are Tavner, born 1826; Louisa, born 1830; Colman, born 1832; and Rebecca Elizabeth, born 1834. The children of Tavener and his 2nd wife, Mary Ann are: Calvin, born 1839; Nancy, born 1840; Adeline, born 1844; Fredonia, born 1847; and Lewis H., born 1850. Tavener died in 1850 and is buried in Prairie Co., AR., which was where they were living in 1850.
Tab’s gg-grandfather is John Lewis TOONE who was the son of Lewis and Frances LEWIS. John Lewis was born in 1760 in Mecklenburg Co., VA. He married Rebecca MOORE on 15 Aug. 1787. Rebecca was born in Mecklenburg, VA. Their marriage was witnessed by his mother, Frances Lewis and surity James Hicks. They left Virginia in the early 1800s and went to Alabama to farm. The children of Lewis and Rebecca are: Elizabeth, born 1788; Nancy, born 1791; George, born 1794; Tavner, born 1809; Ellison, born 1798; John, born 1799; James, born 1807; and Rebecca, born 1808. In 1819 they lived in Madison Co., AL. John Lewis’s records indicate that he owned a lot of slaves.
Tab’s ggg-grandfather was Lewis TOONE, who was the son of Mark TOONE and Elizabeth LEWIS. Lewis TOONE was born in 1717. Elizabeth died the year that he was born. She may have died giving birth to Lewis. Lewis was born in Richmond Co., VA. Elizabeth’s mother raised him. Lewis married Frances (Francis) LEWIS. He went to Mecklenburg Co., VA. Lewis was the first TOONE to go to this county. The children of Lewis and Francis are: James Travis (or James Travenor, found both ways), born 1750; Argelon, born 1753; Lewis, born 1760; and Polly, born 1769. In 1770 they lived in Mecklenburg Co., VA.
Tab’s gggg-grandfather was Mark TOONE, who was the son of James TOONE and Ann DEW. The date of Mark’s birth is unknown, but he was born in old Rappahanock Co., VA. He was young when his father died in 1677. Mark was a farmer. He married Elizabeth LEWIS. She died in 1717 giving birth to Lewis TOONE. Mark died in 1718.
Tab’s ggggg-grandfather was James TOONE, who’s parents are as yet unknown. James TOONE was the first TOONE to come to America. He is believed to have sailed to America as part of the Lord Baltimore group that landed at St. Clements Island, Maryland in 1634. He would have been either on a ship called the “Ark” or one called the “Dove.” The Ark and the Dove sailed from the Isle of Wight (England) in 1634. There is no record of when James TOONE married for the first time. He had a son, James, by his first wife. His second wife was Ann DEW, widow of Andrew Dew. There is no record of when they were married, however, Andrew Dew died before 1661. The children of James TOONE and Ann DEW are: William, John, Haster, Mark and Ann. Ann Dew had two sons when James married her (Andrew and Thomas).
The book has many old wills and deeds in it and I’ll be glad to type up a copy of those that are relevant if you’d like.
