I am looking for information about my father, John Paul Toomey. He was born in March, 1910, I believe in Chicago, Illinois. He was adopted into the Toomey family in Aurora, Illinois, and I believe the adoption date was 1912. He was named after his adoptive father, John Toomey, who was born in 1862/1863 somewhere in Iowa. My dad told me his real name was Augustine, Augustus, or August, <MacCarty, MacCarthy, Mc Carty, or Mc Carthy> but I do not remember exactly what version of that name. He was adopted from an Irish family INTO an Irish family and was a great singer, dancer, and very, very intelligent. He tried to find his real records from the orphanage around 1953-54, but they had a policy of not releasing that information at that time. He was a good, good man, and I am at the age where I want to know more about his background, where he came from, his lineage. Please help me if you have any information or can point me in the right direction.
