Judith,
Hello. I think the William that you speak of could very well be the father or some relative of his. My William with the three different wives was born approximately in 1815. Not sure who his parents are. We strongly believe he was born in Rutherford County (thereabouts with border changes) as he was married twice in TN before he moved to IL and married a Rebecca Gray in White/Wayne County IL.
We believe he is tied to the William you refer to as my great grandpa told my dad that he had always heard that the Toombs' line we are from came from Virgina to TN to IL.
The problem we are having is that we cannot find this William's true parents or evidence of his parents. We believe his parents could be a William Toombs, Samuel Toombs, or a John Toombs. Unfortunatley all we have are theories.
Any help you might be able to provide will be useful. I would be interested in what you have on this William that died in White County. I think we have him in the area around 1817 through census records.
I think we spoke once before a few years back. I think you were telling me that you lived in TExas at the time and had relatives in the Centralia, IL area? Maybe I am confusing you with someone else.
Anyway, keep in touch and feel free to e-mail me at [email protected]
Sincerely
Dave Toombs
