Kathy,
I am a descendant of Robert Alexander whom I believe to be a brother of Rachel (Alexander) Tooker. In researching the Alexanders and related families, I found an 1850 census record for Manly and Roxanna Tooker in Potter, Yates Co., NY with a 74-year old PA-native female, Mary Tooker.I haven't yet figured out where she fits in.To date, I've not found a definitive 1850 census enumeration of Rachel who was still living at that time.Any idea if this individual is 1) Manly's mother Rachel (maybe middle name Mary?), 2) an unmarried sister of Manly, or 3) a widowed sister-in-law of Manly, or 4) someone else?In Manly's "Poems and jottings ...", he mentions that his widowed mother Rachel divided her time living with her children (with Manly in the mid-1850s, but died before 1860 while living with his sister Sarah/Sallie Love in Ithaca). Also Jonah's 1800 and 1810 census records enumerate 2 females about the age of wife Rachel.I'm assuming Rachel is one of them but the second would be too young to be Jonah's mother, so maybe this is an unmarried/widowed sister or sister-in-law.But Jonah's 1820 census no longer enumerates the 2nd of those females.
Thanks!
Rick
