Mrs. Hanora Toohey, of this city, died on Sunday (July 28) evening at the home of her daughter, Mrs. William Fitzgerald, at 807 North Madison street, Bloomington, following an illness of less than a week. Mrs. Toohey went to Bloomington about three weeks ago to visit her son and daughter and only sister, and on last Monday was taken ill. Her death was due to the infirmities of age, and the news of her demise was the cause of universal sorrow among her many friends here.
Deceased was born near the Castle Armah, in County Tipperary, Ireland, May 24, 1828. She came to america at the age of sixteen, locating at London, Ont., and in 1857 was married to Michael Toohey. Mr. and Mrs. Toohey came to Bloomington, Ill., where Mr. Toohey's death occurred about 25 years ago and where Mrs. Toohey continued to reside until about fifteen years ago, when she came to Chatsworth to make her home. Since that time she has resided in her pleasant cottage on Third street, with her daughters.
Mr. Toohey was the mother of five children, all of whom survive her, and all of whom were present at the funeral services on Tuesday. The surviving children are; John T. Toohey, of Strawn, Ill.; W. T. Toohey, money order clerk in the post office at Bloomington, Ill.; Mrs. William M. Fitzgerald, of Bloomngton, at whose home Mrs. Toohey's death occurred; Misses Mary and Anna Toohey, of this city. She is also survived by one sister, Mrs. Wm. G. Smith, of North Oak street, Bloomington, and one brother, John Toohey, of London, Ontario.
The funeral services took place at Holy Trinity church in Bloomington on Tuesday morning, conducted by Dean M. Weldon, and the interment was at St. Mary's cemetery near that city. Friends from Chatsworht, Elkhart, Lincoln, Strawn and El Paso were present.
