As I understand it the Tooheys of brewing fame were Matthew and his wife Honora Hall, and their sons John and James who floated the company. John and James were both NSW politicians.
John was born in Limerick, and James in Victoria. James was Member for South Sydney and John was a legislative councillor. John had some connection with Yass, which was probably the source of the myth, in my family, that we were related to them (there was a mob of Tooheys around the Yass area - I'll post info about my lot shortly).

Note, they both had children and they both died overseas - James in Pisa and John in Chicago.
