I am in hopes that you and I may be related and that maybe you can shed some light on my family background. My great grandfather,
John (H?) Toohey, immigrated from Ireland in 1858. After settling in Hoosick Falls, Rensselear County, New York, he married Mary McNamara and had five children:
Francis Henry - born Feb. 11, 1864
Thomas Henry - born May 1, 1865
Mary Ann - born June 13, 1867
John Henry - born Jan. 15, 1870
James William - born Jan. 13, 1872
Mary Ann died in infancy and John Henry never married. My grandfather, James William, ran away at an early age ending up here in Baltimore. Thomas Henry married Anna Brennan and had 8 children (Mary, Edward, Agnes, Joseph, John, Catherine, Margaret, and Ann). Thomas was eventually buried in Syracuse. Francis (Frank) married a Catherine McQuire and they had at least 1 child, James.
I hope that you can fill in any detail of the lives of these people and their descendants. I am most interested in finding where in Ireland John Toohey was from. All official documents say simply "Ireland" so any further info would be great! I am going to Ireland on September 6th and would love to have some information on our Irish heritage to pursue over there. I will most certainly share whatever information I uncover. Please write me at the address below or at email@example.com. You may phone me during the day at 800-622-0073 or in the evening at 410-337-2827.
