I am looking for relatives of a Tonkin in Detroit, Michigan ... He is the brother of Dora (Tonkin) Wells , who came to Canada (Saskatchewan) in 1927 with her husband , Edgar Hilton Wells and their daughter, Evelyn Annie Wells, age 4.
They moved to Halifax, Nova Scotia , when the 2nd World War broke out and he joined the navy. Later , Dora came to Moncton , N.B. , to live with her daughter and husband.
In the mid 50's , Dora went to visit her brother in Detroit, with Evelyn and husband, Paul Chevalier, and their children , Leslie Ann and Gordon. (I am Gordon's wife)
We do not know her brother's first name -
Would he be your 'Sidney' ?
Dora died in 1978. We have found no papers to try to locate family.
I have been doing genealogy and we are interested in locating family.
Dora Tonkin's daughter was born 05 April, 1923, in Paynters Cross, Pillaton(?) Rd., Cornwall County, England ; and we believe this may have been in the area of the home of the Tonkin family.
Dora had a sister, named Rose Tonkin, who remained in England and she & her husband (she married a 'Brown')
had a 'tea cafe' or restaurant.
There was another sister, named Margaret, who married and remained in England . We don't know her married name.
Also, Evelyn , who will be age 82 in 2 months, was named after her maternal grandmother' Evelyn' or Evelina and her
grandmother was a 'Haynes'.
THERE is a great coincidence here ?? !! ...
Any help greatly appreciated, to find our family !
