I am looking for relatives of a Tonkin in Detroit, Michigan ... He is the brother of Dora (Tonkin) Wells , who came to Canada (Saskatchewan) in 1927 with her husband , Edgar Hilton Wells and their daughter, Evelyn Annie Wells, age 4.
They moved to Halifax, Nova Scotia , when the 2nd World War broke out and he joined the navy. Later , Dora came to Moncton , N.B. , to live with her daughter and husband.
In the mid 50's , Dora went to visit her brother in Detroit, with Evelyn and husband, Paul Chevalier, and their children , Leslie Ann and Gordon.
Dora died in 1978. We have found no papers to try to locate family. I have been doing genealogy and we are interested in locating family. (I am Gordon's wife)
Dora Tonkin's daughter was born 05 April, 1923, in Paynters Cross, Pillaton(?) Rd., Cornwall County, England ; and we believe this was the home of the Tonkin family.
Dora had a sister, named Rose Tonkin, who remained in England and she & her husband had a small 'cafe'.
Also, Evelyn , who will be age 82 in 2 months, was named after her maternal grandmother' Evelyn' .
Any help greatly appreciated, to find our family !
