David A TONG; Charles Bassingdale TONG
Hi! I'm just starting to piece together my family history. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Here's the tree that I know so far:
I am Kevin G Tong [july 1965, Redcliffe, Qld, Aust.]
Son of:
Graeme B Tong [Feb 1939, Chinchilla, QLD, Aust.]
Son of:
Charles Bassingdale TONG [DOB 13th Sept 1903 Balleratt East,Vic, Aust.]
{Spouse: Grace Delores Tong (nee Graves or Greaves)}
Son of:
David Albert Tong [DOB: unknown]
{Spouse: Madeleine Tong (nee Hollow)}
As far as i know David A TONG and his wife emmigrated from Yorkshire, England to Melbourne, Aust. in the late 1800's during a period of encouraged [gov't funded financial] migration.
We believe that David & Madeline had eight (8) sons including Charles Bassingdale TONG in Ballarat or Bendigo.
It is believed one of the sons of David A TONG was a P.O.W in WW1. I don't know that brother's name.
Another son of David A TONG may have been named "Theo" or "Leon".
Charles was in the Australian Army Engineers Corp for many years and then worked in the building industry. He was also a member of Freemasons.
Charles B TONG and his wife, Grace, moved to Brisbane for work sometime in the 1930's. Their firstborn was a daughter, Audrey, and approximately seven years later my father, Graeme B TONG was born in either Chinchilla or Brisbane.
My father, Graeme B, also recalls his grandfather, David A TONG, as being 'a stout Yorkshireman who always came to the table in hat and tails (properly dressed) although he was a plasterer by trade.'
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Thankyou,
Kevin G TONG
