Toner Family

Trying to make some connection. On the marriage certificate of my GGF, John Fern his mother is listed as one Agnes Tonar. His father is listed as Colin Fern. They were living in Scotland at the time. Probably migrated there sometime in 1840's. A census record shows a Colin Fern with three children: John, Bernard and Margaret. Later a report of death for a Colin Fern in 1871 in Scotland. Difficult to read but looks like he is a widower whose wife's name could have been Nancy. Does anyone have a Fern (variant spellings of this name)-Toner connection in their family. My GF was named Peter. Could Agnes be Nancy? Agnes does not seem to be a common Irish name. Any help would be appreciated. My email is imagi6820@comcast.net. Thanks Glen
